Do We Need God Every Hour?

Tuesday, January 05, 2016

       Do you need God right now? This very moment could you live without Jesus?
      Sometimes we forget about Him, then the moment troubled time hit us we say we couldn't live without Him. That's how Israel was, they were constantly forgetting Him and following their idols, then as soon as they were put into captivity they turned back to Him.
   "Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping His commandments, and His judgements, and His statutes, which I command thee this day: Lest when thou hast eaten are art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein; and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and the gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; then thin heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God... and thou say in thine heart, my power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is He that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish His covenant which he swore unto thy fathers, as it is this day." Deuteronomy 8:11-14 & 17-18

     This is exactly what can happen to us when we have easy times. We can forget that God is still working behind the scenes to help us keep the things we have, and that He's gotten them for us. We start getting proud, thinking that we don't need God for strength that we can do things on our own. We can't do anything through our own strength, only with God's help can we do anything. So what happens when we think we don't need Him?
    "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." Proverbs 16:18
   We fall back down, and then we begin relying on God again. Of course, there is a way to get out of this cycle, of spiritual highs then spiritual lows.

"Rejoice in the Lord ALWAYS: and again I say, rejoice." Phillipians 4:4
      This doesn't say just rejoice in the Lord when you're in troubles and He's saving you. It says ALWAYS, yes in trouble times, but also in perfect times. Sometimes we think this is easier to do when we're not having hard times, but then we completely forget to do it anyways. The truth is that we need God every singe day, every hour, ever moment.
      Even when we have everything we think we could possibly have, but don't have God we don't have anything worthwhile. We feel empty, we chase empty things, and that's why we need God so much!
   "I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord;

No tender voice like Thine can peace afford.
I need Thee, O I need Thee;

Every hour I need Thee;
O bless me now, my Savior,
I come to Thee.
I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby;

Temptations lose their power when Thou art nigh.

I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide, or life is in vain.

I need Thee every hour; teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises in me fulfill.
I need Thee every hour, most Holy One;

O make me Thine indeed, Thou blessèd Son."
   Annie S. Hawk
  So don't forget this when things are rosy. God makes them rosy, He's the one keeping you alive, and you must rejoice in Him. He's the one who makes life worthwhile. Don't forget to seek Him, to think about Him, to love Him in the easy times as well as the hard.
    Sincerely,
     Rachel R.
